Hunting Cars, Now and Then

It can get pretty uncomfortable driving around off road for hours in a current model Land Cruiser so quite what it was like travelling around in the first versions 100 years ago I am not quite sure!

I am not familiar with motor vehicles so if anyone can identify the top model and its vintage I would be pleased to know!

Thanks to the expertise of the members of the Vintage Sports-Car Club [VSCC] based in Chipping Norton, Oxon. plus a look at Nick Baldwin's book A-Z of cars of the 1920s, I can confirm that your game car is a 1927 era Buick.

These were assembled Willesden and Hendon, north London, from kits provided by the Buick factory in Canada, so keeping them as Empire-built, and avoiding heavy import duties. It featured an overhead valve straight six cylinder engine of 4497cc with three speed gearbox, taxed as a 30 HP car in Britain and so rarely seen. There was also a commercial vehicle variant from 1931. Probably ideal for bouncing around in the bush!

  Thank you for that information, it is very interesting. I was at a shoot this weekend and there was a 6 x 6 AMG G Wagon which would make bouncing about in the bush a sheer pleasure! It only lasted being transport for 'one partridge drive' however before removal from use, this due to mud on the interior leather work!!

    I have seen photos of them - quite useful in the dunes of Saudi. Maybe he/ she(?) should sell it and buy a pair of your guns, or perhaps has already done so.
    
    Reminds me of an interview with the salesman for the huge Winnebago V8 mobile homes. The journalist exclaimed "But I could buy a cottage in the country for the price of that!" Salesman calmly replied " but most of my customers already have a cottage in the country....."
