However, with the introduction of the Bushveld Safari Suit in 2024, we must have got it right because customer feedback has delivered nothing but praise.
The suit has taken a few years to perfect; we first launched the Bushveld Safari Jacket in 2014. However, the latest version appears to tick all the right boxes so we have decided to re-issue it for 2025.
The beauty of the Bushveld Safari Suit is that it is three garments in one. The jacket and trousers worn together provide a coordinated look and a practical, no-nonsense solution to what to wear on your safari.
Throw the jacket on with a pair of jeans and you have a rugged, yet stylish, smart-casual outfit for any season outside winter. The trousers team well with a polo shirt or a cotton Oxford for any relaxed occasion.
These are classic travel garments which wash and iron into presentable options for social events but work hard for you in-country, when the sweat is running and dust covers everything.
Foremost is the fabric; 100% cotton drill that will resist the ravages of thorn trees, block the most aggressive tsetse fly bite and shrug off the challenges posed by a camp laundry.
This material holds its shape, protects from the sun, acts as a protective top layer during the evening and looks better as it ages and softens.
We offer two tones: light for the savannah and dark for the bush. The 'sand' tone we chose for the lighter option delivers the classic safari suit look familiar to the heroes of the big screen and adventurers of the Selous generation. Our 'rifle green' alternative matches the leaves of the mopane trees native to the thickets of Botswana and Tanzania.
The Bushveld Safari Jacket is packed with practical features. A wide belt stabilises the jacket; even with full pockets and a rifle slung over the shoulder. The five-button closure, featuring our branded natural horn buttons, ensures reliable and maintenance-free temperature control, while the four outside pockets all button-down for security.
Cuffs also feature button-closure and can be rolled up to three-quarter or half-length. Epaulettes on the shoulders prevent a rifle sling from slipping and provide a smart, military-inspired style.
The relaxed fit around the shoulders allows for easy rifle mounting and full arm movement, while promoting air circulation. The skirt length affords some protection from flailing branches and intrusive vegetation, as well as helping rain showers run off the hips and away from the body, while retaining the feel of a jacket rather than a coat.
Wear it as a top layer; either with a T-shirt in hot weather, or an additional shirt and/or light sweater when the temperature drops.
Bushveld Safari Trousers are fashioned from the same, rugged, 100% cotton drill and boast six pockets: two, flapped, rear pockets with horn buttons to secure the contents, and two thigh-pockets, likewise secured. The hip pockets are deep and slanted for easy access.
The waistband is looped for a belt and features button-closure and a zip fly. The straight-cut leg has a nice, loose drape to promote easy air-circulation and quick drying.
If Africa is on your destination list for 2025, you need a Bushveld Safari Suit in your case but we know these garments will be favourites for years to come, regardless of where you spend your time.
