I think in all honesty, it would take of course any 2.5" cartridge in limited numbers but the fact that our old .410 boxes fit so perfectly makes me think it was made for this job.
Another little project for our case maker and leather shop!
The cartridge magazine is photographed on the 'blotting pad' from my desk here, this is a piece of natural coloured leather which has aged over the last year, it starts life a very light colour and ages beautifully and I believe this is what the original case here would have been made from.
These thick leather desk pads can be made to any size required, with hand burnished edges, edging lines and branding they make a nice feature on any desk and gain character over the years as you spill your ink and of course your drink!

It is a rather neat magazine with a lot a honest patina. He did this, I'm sure, as a token of gratitude!

Simon,
Great to see the vintage magazine, a very unusual item, I don't think I have seen even a modern one.
So far as the label is concerned we have an identical one in the case that our 12g "Ovundo" came in , delivered to the original owner in 1935 . I suppose the magazine would probably be of similar age ?
Great blog , great photos,
Regards,
Richard

Hi Simon,
What a cracking 410 leather magazine, I have never seen one before in 410, what a fantastic addition to your collection.
Personal feelings as to age, my somewhat limited knowledge of cases, whether gun cases or magazines, leads me to suggest that because of the type of lock that is mounted on your magazine, (you need a key to keep it closed), it would have been made before "1900", perhaps "1880"s.
Great Blog!
Pete.

Good Day Simon,
I might be interested in pursing a blotting pad Sir. Would you be able to put a gold name on the pad? Perhaps they would make a nice gift for a few friends of mine...if not to expensive!! I will keep an eye out for a selction to come up on your clothing and etc site.
In Christ

I must admit I have a predilection for Antique/Vintage leather shooting accessories, and your Magazine falls quite firmly into this ever expanding interest. It seems fortunate that others around you have similar interests that expand "your" collection.
I certainly wouldn't have passed the Magazine without a second glance.
I do agree with the reply from Pete, that gives a time zone of around "1880s" to "1900" because of the type of lock that without a "key" will not on its own keep the Magazine lid firmly in place.
Your blog seems to cater for anyone interested in anything to do with "Shooting".
Regards. Ryan.
