Westley Richards Modern 'Pierced' Locks

One thing that has eluded Westley Richards over all the years of gun dealing and in fact new gun making has been the sight of a pair of 'pierced' locks as illustrated in the Centenary catalogue of 1812-1912.

Nowhere have we seen a pair of such locks other than in the Centenary catalogue, which must to all intents and purposes make them very rare.

With this in mind it has always been something that we fancied having another go at replicating. So it was that a couple of years ago one of our clients commissioned a small calibre double rifle to be completed to 'Modele de Grande Luxe' standard. For us the perfect opportunity and so here you see the very first pair of modern pierced locks, probably the first ever for a Westley Richards double rifle.

We have also produced a second, standard-format, set of locks for the rifle. The set now showcases both style options in one rifle.

Whether for the discerning collector or the avid sportsman, Westley Richards firearms represent the epitome of excellence in the world of bespoke gunmaking. Known for the droplock shotgun, over and under shotgun, double barrel rifle and bolt action rifle, the company has achieved an illustrious 200 year history of innovation, craftmanship and artistry. As part of our best gun build, clients can choose from three levels of gun engraving: the house scroll; signature game scenes; and exhibition grade masterpieces. All Westley Richards sporting arms are built at their factory in Birmingham, England. Discover more about the gunmaking journey at our custom rifles and bespoke guns pages.
