description
D’Arcy Echols & Co. Classic Standard Sporter Bolt Action Rifle Chambered for the .270 Winchester
According to Mr. Echols, the rifle was completed in 1985 and all metal and stock work are his.
Based on a pre-’64 Model 70 action with modified Balckburn straddle floorplate and inside-the-bow release bottom metal. The bolt body and magazine follower are jeweled the bolt knob checkered with five panels. The action was fitted with a 22” Douglas Premium barrel.
The stock is a nicely figured piece of California French walnut with a RH beaded cheekpiece, ebony forend tip, Fleur de Lis and ribbon checkering on the forend and pistol grip, an Al Biesen skeleton butt plate (traditional skeleton butt plate) and a Pete Grisel skeleton grip cap (point skeleton grip cap). Two inletted sling swivels with blind screws. The stock oval is engraved with the initials “I E W”.
The rifle weighs 7 lbs. 2 oz. and has a 13 5/8” LOP. The rifle has set of Leupold rotary style bases.
Rifle shows signs of use with marks in the wood and a little wear in the bluing at the muzzle. Overall the rifle remains in excellent condition. Albeit and early one, this is a fine example of the workmanship that Mr. Echols is celebrated for and why he is considered one of the finest gunmakers in the U.S. today.
