Manton .470 Boxlock Double Rifle
Serial Number 80163
£7,500.00
description
Made in England, probably in the first quarter of the 20th century, and proof tested for 75 grains of Cordite and a 500-grain bullet.
The .470 rapidly gained in popularity after its 1907 introduction and soon took over from the .450 NE that it closely mirrored in performance, as the favourite double rifle cartridge of the British Empire.
Anson & Deeley action non-ejectors like this were the backbone of the hunting fraternity, delivering reliable and effective service for decades. This example retains a high percentage of original case colour, and is in remarkably good order.
Fitted with a Schmidt & Bender 1.25-40x20 ‘scope and neat, modern mounts, it offers an opportunity to take a traditional double rifle on safari with the benefit of a modern and appropriate ‘scope option, as well as open sights.
The bores and chambers are excellent, it has traditionally longer (than now usual) 28” barrels and sufficient weight to tame this potent cartridge. A proper working rifle, well made and ready for action.
