description
Wonderful Westley Richards 12g Hand Detachable Lock Shotgun completed in 1927 with additional 30" barrels added in 1929. This gun features Westley Richards patent hand detachable locks, ejectors, automatic safety, patent 'One' trigger and signature model 'C' dolls head fastener with snap action lever work. The cover plate is an early conversion from a fully detachable plate to a hinged version.
The gun features bold scroll engraving with a small traces of original case colour hardening. The action and metal work never appears to have undergone any refurbishment hence the engraving retains it's crispness and detail.
The earlier 28" steel barrels are of dovetail configuration with a concave game rib, 2 1/2" chambers, choked 5/8 and 1/4. The 30" steel barrels, once again of dovetail configuration, have a concave game rib and 2 1/2" chambers, choked 1/4 and full.
The rounded semi-pistol grip stock is highly figured with a 3/8" wooden spacer followed by Silvers anti recoil pad. The silver oval remains un-engraved. The English splinter forend is complimented with Westley Richards signature Deeley forend release catch and horn tip finial.
The gun comes complete in its original canvas case to take 28" barrels, the 30" barrels separate. Apart from the lengthening to the stock the gun appears untouched from its construction in the 1920's and has been in the same family for over 50 years.
